A few words about us…

The House of Flowers was begun in the summer of 1949 by Isabel O’Neill and her Aunt Ceil Gillespie. Isabel operated the shop until 1972 when it was purchased by her second cousin Michael O’Neill and his mother Marjorie. Presently, Michael is the owner.


Michael has operated  a retail flower shop for 39 years and was inducted in AIFD, (American Institute of Floral Designers) in 1991.  In the past he won Teleflora ‘s Design America Competition in 1992 and represented the United States at Floriade in Holland for Teleflora’s International Design Competition.    He taught floral design as a guest designer in Taiwan.  As a member of Teleflora’s Endorsed Designer Team he presented design programs in many states.

Michael authored a floral design course for Thompson Direct Learning.  He has been part of the floral design team for the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California and for the Academy Awards in Hollywood, California.

In addition, he organized Blooms over Atlanta in conjunction with
AIFD’s  National Symposium and served as program chair in 1998.  Michael served as President of PFIA(Pennsylvania Floral Industry Association) and AIFD Northeast Regional Chapter.    He chaired AIFD’s exhibit at the Philadelphia Flower Show in 1997 and 2001 and served on committee for AIFD and SAF (Society of American Florists) and was past National President of AIFD.
